Writing to Reclaim
Workshop Series

This workshop is designed to be a welcoming and safe space for trans and queer folk to find their voices. Identity and connection will emerge through timed writings, using prompts as a starting place.

The workshop will be 90 minutes long, beginning with a 5-minute prompt to express intention or expectation, and concluding with 5-minute prompt to summarize a take-away. The workshop will feature a 15-minute writing on a prompt.

After the writing time, participants may choose to share their work. We will provide guidelines on how to give feedback and support on how to present one’s own work.

The facilitators will be two social workers who identify as both queer and writers. Flyn Alexander and Susan Dingle will model the process of creative writing as a practice to reclaim identity and connect with community.

This workshop can be offered for adults, youth and for people in recovery from substance abuse.

The workshop is offered as a 4 week package of 4 sessions. The workshop will include the opportunity for participants to share their work with an audience within the queer trans community at a special reading at the end of the workshop. Participants will also be invited to share their work at a public reading, hosted by Susan Dingle at the Camas Library on the 4th Wednesday of the month.
