Danny Henson, LMFT

Danny (he/him/his) is a LMFT in the state of Washington. He has a MS in Family Therapy and BA in Psychology from Seattle Pacific University, as well as an AA in Psychology from Evergreen Valley College.

Danny worked for seven years in community mental health clinics focused on trauma-informed care for children, teenagers, and supporting their families to grow together. More recently, he has worked four years in private practice and focused on helping adults with trauma therapy, and especially helping parents impacted by trauma explore and reduce the impact their symptoms have on their relationships.

Danny emphasizes modeling curiosity, and loves helping his clients better understand the human experience of trauma. He believes being able to see what trauma does to human brains makes what it has done to you feel less personal, and works to help his clients separate their symptoms from who they are. He advocates for his clients to take compassionate responsibility for their mental health symptoms with the same acceptance they would in covering a sneeze.

His experience includes learning from and supporting LGBTQ+ clients, supervisees, and colleagues. He believes there are many ways the identities we are socialized in can carry the threat of rejection or isolation, and can be sources of trauma. He sees growth towards self-acceptance, self-compassion, authenticity, and vulnerable interdependence as important parts of healing.

When he’s not working, Danny spends most of most days taking care of his two small children, desperately trying to amuse them with his drawings, dance moves, and whatever he can build out of cardboard. When they sleep he is busy connecting with his partner, coping with ADHD, painting, playing video games, watching other people play games he has no time for, and baking cookies.

Specialty: Treatment of trauma, complex trauma as a chronic illness, and the impacts of adaptations to trauma on interpersonal relationships

I am best for people who: feel frustrated and confused by their mixed feelings or conflicting thoughts. I work well with people who are starting to struggle with aspects of their relationships with their family, partner, children, or self and are curious if their own experiences of trauma are at the root of their struggle.

Telehealth status: Available for telehealth only.
