Blue, Intern
Hi, I’m Blue (They/Them)! It’s a pleasure to meet you!
I am a marriage and family therapist intern at Wild Heart Society. I hold a masters in fine arts, and a PhD in environmental humanities with an emphasis in gender studies. My dissertation explores how an embodied connection to nature can increase pleasure and joy for trans folks.
As a therapist, my intention is to bring warmth and compassion into the therapeutic relationship. I believe in and care about my clients. I do not consider myself an expert on other folk’s lives, but strive to be a nurturing and supportive ally in discovering and healing the parts of us that need tending. My work is grounded in the knowledge that our intersecting identities are impacted by the systems we live in. I own how my identities as a white, educated, neurodivergent, disabled, queer and trans person enter into the therapy room and pay careful attention to how they impact my clients and their identities.
I have a deeply personal and professional interest in working with queer and trans folks. I believe our joy and pleasure is our birthright as well as radical acts of resistance. It gives me great happiness to hold space for folks in my communities to deepen their capacity for pleasure.
I am especially passionate about working with folks around issues related to gender, sex and sexuality, relational issues, non-monogamy, disability, autism and ADHD, body image, disordered eating, and untangling internalized oppression. I am also interested in working with folks in the sex industry and approach this work in an affirming way.
My work as a therapist is informed by feminist theory, queer ecologies, dance, art, ecotherapies, somatics, liberational therapies, Body Trust®, attachment theory, social justice, and relational approaches. I work from a disability, body, sex, and gender affirming lens.
Personally, I have worked closely with a therapist, and do my own work related to gender, sex, sexuality, body image, disability, trauma, and marginalization. I am experienced in non-monogamy, and kinky relationships. These experiences serve to ground my therapeutic work in empathy and compassion for my clients.
Professionally, I have more than twenty years experience working with neurodivergent youth in schools and nature retreats. I spent my twenties leading nature hikes; and teaching canoeing, kayaking, and backpacking skills. I have taught creative writing and art workshops, and dance classes; and I have experience in the sex industry.
In addition to my work at Wild Heart Society, I work with queer and trans adults co-creating pleasure-centered retreats and workshops. We use art, nature, and our own sensory embodiment to deepen our capacities for joy.
In my free time I enjoy cuddling my dogs, swimming in open water, dancing, smelling flowers (even though they make me sneeze), baking, painting, taking photos of nature and people in nature, buying up as many peaches as I can at the farmer’s market, and spending time with my beloved community.
Specialty: Gender Identity, Sex and Sexuality, Sex Work, Relational Issues, Body Image, Eating Disorders, Autism and ADHD, Cultural Oppression.
I am best for people who: queer and trans folks looking to affirm their gender and/or sexuality; those with sex related concerns; folks in the sex industry; couples, moresomes, and other relational systems; people recovering from a culture of body shaming and dieting; disabled folks; and neurodivergent folks. I also work well with people who are committed to reclaiming and enhancing joy in their lives; untangling internalized injustices; and those who are seeking artistic, somatic, or nature-based healing.
